Jukebox the Ghost CD Release Show
It’s finally here. The moment you have all been waiting for. The Jukebox the Ghost record “Live and Let Ghost” will be released on Saturday night at The Black Cat.
We’ve written about Jukebox in the past, but we can’t help but advertise for this show. JtG is incredible in concert and this show will be no exception. This is their first time headlining at The Black Cat and these former GW students have promised us that they are pulling out all the stops.
Having had an advance listen to “Live and Let Ghost,” I can assure you that it exceeds expectations. “Live and Let Ghost” is one of the best pop records I have heard in a long time. The Colonialist STRONGLY urges you to go see this show and purchase the new record.
Here’s a video of their recent WOXY Radio performance:

Sunday Bloody Sunday… case closed, U2 rules, Jukebox is lame. Very lame. Why don’t they go play a show on ABC Family, thats the only television station where they belong.
To suggest that U2 has any credibility because they appropriated disaster is absurd. I use “appropriated” because the song is not intentionally political (which is not to say it is not political), it is merely the [mis]use of a tragedy to steroiditize record sales.
“Why don’t they go play a show on ABC Family, thats the only television station where they belong” suggests that bands exist solely to provide music for television stations, which is absurd. It’s another misjudgement.
What’s sad “Kirk” is your inability to process the criticism I have passed on about this band. I say they should play on ABC Family because I am connecting the image of poor programming and production (at least in my opinion) that exists on ABC family and the poor songwriting and performing of Jukebox.
Also, are you saying bands should not reflect on historical or modern events simply thats appropriating them? I feel as if you leave no room for music to address any public situation.
I understood what your comparison was presenting metaphorically, what I was addressing was what the ABC Family comparison presupposed about music in general, about TV.
Also, are you saying bands should not reflect on historical or modern events simply thats appropriating them?
I don’t know what that means
Do you mean “Are you saying that any musical use of historical or contemporary occurrences is necessarily appropriation?”
To that, the answer is “NO, very much no.”
To qualify, U2 cannot “reflect on historical or modern events” without “appropriating them” by nature of the kind of band that U2 is.
Billy Bragg (not my favorite, but kind of a “gimme”) can “reflect on historical or modern events” without “appropriating them.”
The difference is in the “who” and the “why” and the “how,” not the “what.”
Do you understand what I’m gesturing at here?
My username is kirk, not “Kirk.”
I’m sorry “kirk”, do you not know how the english language works, usually, hey and this is just me, we capitalize the first letter of our names. But that is just me. Anyway…
My question is what gives you the right to decide when improper appropriation has taken place? Isn’t that a rather individual conclusion for one to reach.
Also… Bill Bragg, or in your case billy bragg, what excatly seperates him from u2? how and what did billy do different?
Haha. “Sunday Bloody Sunday…case closed.”
I think my favorite U2 song is the one where Bono inexplicably counts “1, 2, 3, 14!” in Spanish.
The Jukebox show on Saturday was very awesome. I also think it’s telling that the U2 fan remains anonymous. I probably would, too.
I wasn’t addressing the capitalization so much as the quotes. kirk is fine. Kirk is fine. “Kirk” and “kirk” are just weird.
Appropriation is not an individual choice, it’s a material fact.
Do you not know how the English language works? Usually — and isn’t/couldn’t be just me here because I’m attempting to tell you how the English language works — we use punctuation to make sentences make sense.
If you think about who/what U2 is/represents and figure out who/what Billy Bragg is/represents, the answer will reveal itself to you — perhaps in a dream.
I like Jukebox.
Also, I am a U2 fan and I don’t totally get all the hate. Bono’s kind of a prick, yeah. But going after U2 ’cause they did “Vertigo” is kinda like going after the Beach Boys cause they did “Kokomo.”
Ok, everyone, the lesson here is three-fold
1) U2 is the only entity involved, in some way, in this discussion that has produced music for the “Mission Impossible” soundtrack.
2) “Jukebox the Ghost” is becoming popular at striking rate, which, as it should, creates strong opinions on both sides of the preference spectrum.
3) people like music and enjoy, anonymously or otherwise, belittling contending opinions, regardless of the truth/realistic nature of their terms - this will never change
4) this video is the best performance U2 has ever given:

5) would someone like to eat lunch with me?
OH THANK YOU SO MUCH “fat,n,nasty” you’re a regular Henry Kissinger.
Anyway back to KIRK, my best friend. What. mental/ retardation: do; you, have? (Does that make sense to you?)
Anyway Kirk, I’m sorry we can’t listen to the romantic/political ramblings of a British wannabe.
You must be enjoying the new Mountain Goats as well.
U2 is the real deal, and Bono should be a saint. No one man had done more for the world. Thank you for your time.
Kevin is not Henry Kissinger, he’s Hank Kissingirls.
No, it doesn’t make sense to me.
I AM enjoying the new Mountain Goats.
I don’t much like Billy Bragg, he’s just an easy/accessible producer of music that is not jointgrindingly fetishized and commodified.
“That mad showed bees ain’t, nomad hats ‘dorned morph or the word”
I corrected your sentiment.
You’re welcome for my time.

meh, worst band i ever heard
