The Great Internet Crusades
I’m sure most of you out there think Scientology is bat shit crazy, and you’re right. Well, finally a group of courageous internet patrions are willing to stand up against the Church of Scientologist. A misunderstood internet community called Anonymous has begun their assault on the church, by way of DoS attacks (Denial of Service attacks). This pretty much floods the servers of Scientology websites with data, blocking the entrance to the site and making it impossible to view.
While this seems stupid and petty at first glance, the whole process seems to be working. Over the weekend, they have successfully taken down many of their websites and flooding offices with black-faxes aimed at stopping operations and wasting ink.
The media has hopped on board, too. Articles on USA Today, Wired, and Slashdot. The most comprehensive analysis is done by Gawker.
Menial internet bullshit? Perhaps.
Funny to watch unfold? Absolutely.
