Hatchet: We Must Pass Fee Increase

The Hatchet actually made a really good case for voting for the fee increase tomorrow. Check it out here.

It is in the opinion of this writer, and not the blog as a whole, that you should also vote for the fee increase tomorrow. Vote at my.gwu.edu.

alternately Patrick Ford and the GW Patriot make an interesting case against the new student fee increase. here is a copy of message forwaded to me:

Subject: VOTE NO ON SA FEE INCREASE!

Fwd from Patrick Ford:

For those who surely know the problems that the university and the SA cause on our dollar:

Tomorrow the SA will once again try to raise the Student Fee, and this time they plan on doing it by taxing the incoming students, kids who have no say in this matter.

Last October the Student Association proposed a fee increase to the GW student body. The common feeling amongst the students being that enough money is already funneled into the GW bureaucracy, the students voted the increase down, hoping to send a message to the SA that rather than asking for more money they should better manage the money they already have.

Now, mere months later, the SA is once again trying to find new avenues for tax collection and has stooped to disenfranchising the incoming classes of students in hopes that we, the GW student body, will vote the increase because it is someone elses money rather than our own.

I know that we go to school in the District of Columbia, but now taxation without representation has infiltrated GW’s high walls and hopes to find a soft resting place in the hearts of GW’s bureaucratic ruling class. As fellow students we can not let this happen.

The fee increase will go to vote on my.gwu.edu on February 5th, and we must vote “NO.” It was one issue to vote an increase on ourselves. If we show that we are unwilling to increase our own fees, but willing to increase the fees of others we as a student body will have sunk to a new low.

The GW Patriot editorial board therefore urges all students to vote “NO” on the fee increase on Feb. 5th.’

I’m tired of anonymous comments that are:
1. Absurd
2. Unfounded

I’ll post about this soon.
